Arch Linux and most Linux packagestauon
Flatpakflatpak run com.github.taiko2k.tauonmb
Linux portable archive./tauon in the TauonMusicBox folder

Windows portable archive"Tauon Music Box.exe" in the TauonMusicBox folder
macOS/Applications/Tauon.app/Contents/MacOS/Tauon

The examples below use tauon; substitute the command for your install.

OptionWhat it does
--trayStart hidden in the system tray instead of showing the window.
--no-startSend the other arguments to the running Tauon and exit. Never starts a new Tauon.
-h, --helpPrint a summary of these options and exit.

These commands go to the Tauon that’s already running:

CommandAlso acceptedAction
--playStart playback
--pausePause
--playpauseToggle play/pause
--stopStop
--nextadvanceNext track
--previousprev, backPrevious track
--shuffleToggle shuffle
--repeatToggle repeat
--raiseBring the window to the front
--reloadthemeReload the current theme from its file, handy when editing a .ttheme file by hand

The leading -- is optional and hyphens inside a command are ignored, so --playpause, --play-pause and playpause all work.

A command never starts Tauon. If Tauon isn’t running, the command exits with an error instead.

For example, to skip to the next track:

Terminal window
tauon --next

Pass files, folders or file:// URIs to add them to the Default playlist (Tauon creates it if it’s missing). The first item starts playing.

Terminal window
tauon ~/Music/MyAlbum
  • If Tauon is running, the files are sent to it and the command exits.
  • If Tauon isn’t running, it starts and opens them.

Running the command with no arguments while Tauon is running brings its window to the front.

An existing file is always opened, even if its name matches a command. A file called play in the current folder is opened, not treated as --play.
